Stuff I Love–Asteroid Kleopatra

One of my favorite blogs, Bad Astronomy, which I will sign paeans of praise to later, alerted me to this article in The Planetary Society Blog about the asteroid known as Kleopatra.

What is especially cool about Kleopatra is that it is shaped like a bone.  It orbits beyond Mars and is about 271 by 65 kilometers.  It also has two moons orbiting it.  The moons are named Cleoselene and Alexhelios, after the names of Cleopatra’s children.

It was discovered way back in 1880, but the Keck II telescope recently got photos of it (and the moons!)   Go check it out.
